Greenhouse Gas Quantification
We follow internationally recognized best practices for quantifying greenhouse gas emissions or reductions for several purposes including regulatory offset credits, voluntary offset credits, or company-level or project-level greenhouse gas inventories.
We can help monetize the environmental benefits of your technology or business through serializing offset credits. We work collaboratively with our clients to deliver as much or little support as they need to establish an offset project plan, develop an offset quantification calculator based on their own data management practices, complete annual project reporting, and pass a third-party verification.
We help companies quantify the carbon intensity of production of their product. For example, bioenergy companies need to calculate the carbon intensity of their product in order to participate in bioenergy markets in North America. Depending on your needs, our team can support the development of a carbon intensity through the use of the GREET model, the GHGenius model, or a custom “inventory” (Life Cycle Assessment) for programs such as Alberta’s Bioenergy Producer Program. We also complete custom GHG quantification projects to suit other purposes, such as applied policy research, technology feasibility modelling, and carbon strategy development.
Credibility, accuracy, and robustness are of critical importance in this practice area, which is why all of our staff are certified to the ISO 14064 part 1 and part 2 standards, and follow accepted best practices, according to the system or jurisdiction in which we work.
Our team has experience understanding systems in diverse sectors of the economy, and have a unique depth of understanding particularly of biological systems. Staff have worked with Alberta’s regulatory offset system’s agricultural protocols to develop quantification calculators and support the serialization of aggregated offset credits, more than any other firm in Alberta. Our team has also worked with industrial processes, energy systems, and energy efficiency project types.
Our diverse expertise in this field means that we can support work in the bioenergy sector with a holistic perspective on the cycling of biomaterials. We understand that we are working within complex systems, and are concerned not only with the cycling of energy but with nutrients and materials and value-added products that may have uses in other systems.
